Make your next start
with a clearer picture.

Which end is favoured? How is the tide affecting your approach? How much time can you spend before heading for the line?

Tackr brings these calculations into one racing display, using your position and the wind and instrument data available. The beta is a chance to help us refine it around real starts and real boats.

Start line bias — estimated by feel
See which end is favoured using the line position and wind direction, with the estimated advantage in one view.
Tidal current — ignored or guessed
Tide changes your approach to the line and marks. See the estimated current alongside your position when the required instrument data is available.
Time to burn — counted in your head
How long can you stay on this tack before you need to head for the line? Doing that maths in your head under pressure is where starts are lost.

The numbers behind your next decision.

Start line geometry, wind angles and boat performance in one view. Try the simulation now; live calculations depend on the sensors and data connected to your boat.

Start Line Intelligence
Real-time calculation of which end is favoured — and by how much. Calculated from the line position and wind direction.
Live Laylines
Your optimal tacking angles drawn on the chart, based on true wind direction and your boat's polar data.
Time to Burn
Estimate how much time you have before heading for the line, based on your current position and speed.
OCS Detection
Audio + visual alert fires the moment you cross the line early. Use it to support your own judgement at the line.
Tidal Set & Drift
Estimated by comparing GPS course and speed with heading and speed through the water. Shown as a directional arrow on the chart so you can see what the tide is doing to your boat.
Tackr Hub — In development
Designed to bring supported NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 and SeaTalk1 instrument data into Tackr. Your connected sensors supply wind, depth, heading and water speed.

We're looking for sailors who actually race.

Sailors who will use Tackr on the water, share what helps, and tell us what needs improving.

Yacht racers — club nights, regattas, offshore
Raymarine / SeaTalk owners who want their instruments on a phone
NMEA 0183 boats looking for a modern display
NMEA 2000 networks that need WiFi access
Cruiser-racers who do occasional racing
Marine electronics installers who want to see what's possible
Anyone frustrated by the cost of professional racing tools

What you get. What we ask.

This is a working partnership. We're not collecting signups — we're building a product with sailors who care.

What you get
Full app access — all features, no paywall — for the whole beta
Priority access to Tackr Hub hardware when it’s ready
"Founding Member" status when paid plans launch
Direct line to the founders — you shape the roadmap
Priority onboarding call (15 min, Zoom or phone)
Your name in the app credits ("Built with the Tackr Beta Fleet")
What we ask
Use the app on at least 5 races this season
3-question feedback form after each race (2 minutes max)
Tell us honestly when something is wrong
One post in your sailing community — if you like it
Optional: anonymised race data to improve algorithms

DEMO
A start you can explore
Follow a simulated Cork Harbour approach, jump to the start and switch to the upwind leg. No account or hardware needed.
HUB
Hub in development
The Hub is being developed for supported SeaTalk1 and NMEA networks. Third-party app compatibility must be confirmed for each integration.
PWA

Common questions.

Everything you need to know before applying.

Is Tackr available to use now?
Yes. The app is live at tackr.co.uk/app — try it in simulation mode right now. The beta programme gives you a formal tester slot with direct feedback access to the founders and priority access to Tackr Hub hardware.
Does it work with SeaTalk (Raymarine)?
The Hub is in development with SeaTalk1 support for compatible Raymarine instruments. We will confirm the connection and supported readings for your installation.
Does it work with NMEA 0183?
NMEA 0183 support is part of Hub development. Instrument wiring, baud rate and supported sentences will need to match your boat’s equipment.
Does it work with NMEA 2000?
NMEA 2000 support is part of Hub development. Network connection and supported instrument data will be confirmed before hardware testing.
Do I need to be technical to use it?
The demo opens in your browser without setup. Using live instruments requires a compatible data connection; Hub installation depends on your boat’s wiring and power supply.
Is this for racing or cruising?
Primarily racing. The core features — start line bias, laylines, time to burn, OCS detection — are built for the race course. Cruising features (anchor guard, route planning) are on the roadmap.
What does beta testing involve?
Use the app in at least 5 races this season. Fill in a 3-question feedback form after each race (2 minutes). Tell us what breaks. That's it. No formal commitments.
Do I need the Tackr Hub hardware?
No hardware is needed for the demo. Phone GPS can provide position and speed, but not measured wind, depth or speed through water. Live instrument readings require suitable sensors and a compatible connection. The Tackr Hub is in development for this purpose.
What phone does it work on?
Any modern iOS or Android device. Tackr is a PWA — install it from the browser, no App Store required. Works on iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and in any desktop browser.
Is it really free?
Yes. The app is free during the beta, with full access, no credit card and no catch. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet. When paid plans launch, beta testers who gave useful feedback will get Founding Member status.

The beta is free, and beta testers get first access to the Tackr Hub and Founding Member status when paid plans launch. We're building this for the fleet, not the tech industry. If you race, you're who this is for.
