Privacy Policy
Last updated 31 October 2026
This policy covers the Tackr app (iOS, Android and web) and the Tackr Hub. Tackr is run by Henry Powell in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller. Questions: henry@tackr.co.uk.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and profile picture they share.
- Beta applications and the waitlist: your name, email, sailing type and anything else you put in the form, plus which link brought you to the page (for example a LinkedIn post).
- Technical data: when you load our pages or the app's charts, your browser sends your IP address to the services that deliver them (listed below). We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.
Location and boat data
Your position, and the instrument data from your Tackr Hub (wind, speed, heading, depth), are used on your device to draw the chart and run the start-line and tactical calculations. They are not sent to us. The hub talks to the app directly over the boat's own WiFi. Marks, courses and boat settings you save are stored on your device.
How we use it
Only to run the app: signing you in, replying to beta applications and sending launch updates you asked for. The legal basis is your consent (beta and waitlist) and providing the service you signed up to (your account). We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
Who processes it
- Supabase hosts accounts and beta applications.
- Google and Apple, if you use them to sign in.
- Resend sends beta programme emails.
- Fasthosts hosts this website and the web app.
- Mapbox, OpenStreetMap and OpenSeaMap serve the chart tiles in the app.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr serve fonts and code libraries for our web pages.
Keeping and deleting it
We keep your account data while you have an account. You can delete your account at any time in the app (account menu → Delete account). That permanently removes your account and profile. Data stored on your device is removed when you delete the app.
We keep beta applications and waitlist sign-ups until 12 months after the app's public launch, then delete them, unless you have become a customer. To be removed sooner, or to stop launch updates, email henry@tackr.co.uk and we'll delete your details within 30 days. You can also email us to ask for a copy of your data or a correction.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can access, correct, delete or move your data, and object to how it's used. If you're unhappy with how we've handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Not a navigation aid
Tackr is a racing aid. It is not a navigation or safety system. Always keep a proper lookout and use your boat's own instruments and charts.
Children
Tackr isn't aimed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
